Hello! My name is Shiarah Tejada, and I am so excited to be part of the Bilingual Nest family. I am looking forward to learning more about the students and their families and to have a wonderful school year together. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, however, I have spent over 6 years in New York pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree and also my Master’s degree. In 2008 due to prior experiences traveling and my desire to obtain a higher level of education, I attended Manhattanville College to pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
My work with children started in high school doing some volunteer work and continued all throughout college working at a summer camp. After my graduation in 2012, I moved back to the Dominican Republic to continue growing professionally. There I started working at an after school, then I became a teacher Assistant in a kindergarten classroom for a few months and then I was an assistant for the English Department (all grades) and an English Teacher for 1st and 2nd grade. During my last year in the Dominican Republic (2015), I worked as an inclusive classroom teacher and I had the most wonderful experience ever. Due to my experiences with young children and teaching children with special needs, I decided to pursue my masters in Special Education and Early Childhood and Teachers College, Columbia University and graduated this past May with the Bilingual Extension in Spanish. I am extremely excited to get to know your child and working with him/her this year. I look forward to teaching them as well as learning many things from them.
